Teaching Background

I have been teaching voice for 18 years. I currently teach Contemporary Voice at Macalester College where I have been a member of the music department since 2008. I have previously been a voice faculty member at McNallySmith College of Music, Concordia University, St. Paul Conservatory of Performing Arts (SPCPA), and St. Paul Conservatory of Music (SPCM). I also teach out of my home in St. Paul. I offer private lessons to all levels and most ages (not children under 11). Contact me below if you are interested in taking lessons!

Testimonials

“I had always enjoyed singing to the radio but didn’t understand the capabilities of my voice and hoped that with some work I might come to recognize them. When I began my lessons with Rachel, I was excited but also had a great deal of trepidation as it was an entirely new experience for me. Rachel has taught me so much! She has taught me to focus on the strengths of my voice while also sharing with me her specialized knowledge which has allowed me to improve my voice. I leave each lesson encouraged and motivated to do more. I am approaching the two-year mark in my lessons with Rachel with a much improved voice. I am looking forward to many years ahead with Rachel as my teacher.”

“Rachel has an uncanny knack for putting you at ease and helping you find your voice through building awareness of where your sound comes from. Through this, one also builds a stronger relationship with their body, which benefits many other aspects of life.”

-Jake Baldwin

"Voice lessons with Rachel have helped me discover my voice and build confidence in singing I never imagined I could have. I have learned a lot about technique, vocal placement, interpretation, and style. I'm always excited to take a lesson. I enjoy it so much that I’m crossing state lines to take lessons with Rachel!”
